Metal Info
Gold Filled
Gold filled is an affordable alternative to solid gold. It’s made by permanently bonding a thick layer of solid gold to a base metal (usually brass) by using heat & pressure. Due to this mechanical bond, the gold will not fade, rub off or flake like gold plating can.
Gold filled material is required to contain a minimum of 5% solid gold, creating a gold layer about 100x thicker than most plated jewelry.
Gold filled is low maintenance and a great option for people with sensitive skin.
I only use USA manufactured gold filled materials.
Sterling Silver
Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver. The rest of the metal alloy is usually copper. The copper is added to strengthen the metal so it is more durable. Sterling silver is harder and more durable than pure silver, making it a good choice for jewelry.
Sterling silver is also hypoallergenic, so it's a good choice for people with sensitive skin.
Sterling silver can tarnish when exposed to certain chemicals, high humidity, or sulfur. However, it's relatively easy to clean and restore to its original shine.
